Erica Wynn is a junior at American University working toward a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Communication Studies.
She has recently graduated from a NOLS Alaska Backpacking course and is enrolled in a Patagonia Mountaineering course for this January. Erica was introduced to the NOLS community through her involvement with Girltrek, an organization dedicated to promoting health and fitness among Black women and girls. Girltrek has collaborated with NOLS through the Gateway Partner Program, which provides capable students from underserved communities full scholarships to NOLS courses. As a part of Girltrek’s Trailblazer Fellowship program, Erica serves as a role model through committing to a year of health education, advocacy, and community service.
Erica was born and raised in Queens, New York but through hard work and a fortunate turn of events, she gained admissions to Suffield Academy, a private boarding school in Connecticut. At Suffield Academy, Erica took advantage of programs such as Suffield’s Outdoor Leadership Opportunities (SOLO), where she developed leadership skills and an interest in the outdoors.
